Stadium networking with Barnfind technology: optical campus network for the ISS Dome in Dusseldorf.

In summer/autumn 2016, the VIDI engineers designed and installed another individual, optical campus network for a customer in the ISS Dome in Dusseldorf.

Both the stadium network and the connection to the new 12M LED video cube were realized using fiber optics and the flexible, signal-neutral Barnfind platform.

The stadium network was implemented using point-to-point WDM technology, and various locations within the ISS Dome were connected to the control room. The video connections realized in this way from the loading dock, the timer-keeper’s table (ice hockey) and the camera position 1 (main camera) are now capable of transmitting SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI signals.

A redundant CWDM solution is used to transmit the signals for the LED video cube. What’s more, multiple Gigabit Ethernet connections were also realized with Barnfind technology using a fiber optic link between the control room and the new video cube.

These connections are used to control the four surfaces of the cube as well as an advertising ring around the cube. The signals from two cameras within the dome are also sent to the control room, and a connection for system monitoring was realized, as well. The signal lines to the video cube were installed redundantly in line with the customer’s special requirements regarding signal security and signal availability.

Heavy, inflexible and expensive cabling to transmit video, audio, tally, intercom and RCP signals within the ISS Dome are therefore a thing of the past.
